Culture of Solidarity - Fine Acts

Culture of Solidarity is a creative challenge by Fine Acts, supported by the European Cultural Foundation, aiming at fostering a creative space to produce emotional, compelling visuals that bring to life a common vision for a better future.

We commissioned 27 artists (one representing each EU member state) to create new works that reinforce solidarity and deal with the aftermath of the pandemic in European societies. We also opened a call to creatives anywhere to submit relevant works from their archive.

We believe that the coronavirus crisis can be a strong catalyst for the European idea as it reveals the fundamental necessity for collective action, unity, and a culture and practice of solidarity. At the same time, the crisis has demonstrated the danger of increasing nationalist sentiments, growing authoritarianism, closing borders, and crackdown on civil liberties. There is an urgent need for uplifting messages of unity, togetherness and solidarity that would reinforce the feeling of belonging and the idea of Europe as a shared space.

I love these works

Woohoo! Go ahead and download, print and share them online. Please tag the artists and us.

I love them so much I want to adapt them

Yes, you can! Do you need to translate the message in a different language? Or put up a different slogan? All featured works are published under a Creative Commons-Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International license on TheGreats.co – Fine Acts’ new platform for free socially engaged visuals, and made available for free noncommercial use and adaptation to activists and orgs worldwide, given the appropriate credit.

Open Call Selected Artists

We received almost 1000 submissions for our open call. Selecting whom to feature was tough, selecting the 20 awardees (★) was almost impossible. The jury’s selection was informed by key criteria — relevance to the theme; overall quality and creative vision inspiring unity, togetherness, hope, and solidarity; and potential for impact. Congratulations to everyone featured, and a huge THANK YOU to all who participated.
